Lythwood Lodge

For many visitors a day or two doing nothing is a wonderful tonic - the peace of our countryside can be so relaxing. The more intrepid visitor though will enjoy one of the magnificent walks of approximately 3 hours through the indigenous forest followed by a dip in the pool. For the birder the area around Lythwood is a real treat; it offers three different habitats and to date 160 plus species have been seen (or heard) including the very rare Cape Parrot and the Martial Eagle. And if you want to catch a trout for your breakfast then there is always the opportunity to cast a fly on either the dam or the river.

Close to Lythwood are the many craft shops of the Midlands Meander including the internationally known Ardmore Pottery and visitors looking for a present for themselves or loved ones will enjoy spending some time visiting some of these establishments.

Our visitors may also like to experience the lifestyle of the local township of Mpophomeni and learn about the 1980's Sarmcol strikes whilst sipping on sorghum beer in a nearby shebeen. Either half day or full day tours can be arranged at a very nominal cost. The visitor will also be offered the chance to participate in the dancing and drumming - a lot of fun.

Visitors staying two nights or more may enjoy one of our specialised tours:

Golf

Lythwood is blessed with some excellent golf courses within a short motoring distance of the lodge. Both Gowrie and Boshoek are well acclaimed courses. Should the weather be inclement guests can browse among the books in the library, participate in a 1000 piece puzzle or alternatively play a game of bridge, chess or backgammon or something perhaps more mundane like Cluedo - the choice is varied and it is yours.
