The sanctification of the marriage can be undertaken at Lythwood in our unique chapel that has been converted from an old dairy. Seating inside is restricted to 125 but on the concrete apron outside a further 100 or so can be seated.

Its rustic character adds a certain charm which hallows the occasion. Most Christian denominations accept the venue but you should check with your minister of choice beforehand.

Use of the chapel is available upon confirming our reception venue at no additional cost.

Traditions

  • The Dress

White was the colour which the ancient Romans believed would ward off evil spirits, as opposed to the popular notion of purity or virginity. The veil was also designed to protect the bride from evil spirits seeing her beauty and becoming jealous.

  • The Wedding Bouquet

In olden days this was made up of strong smelling herbs to frighten away evil spirits, and to surround the couple with beauty. Most flowers have their own meaning. The bouquet used to always contain orange blossom which symbolised fertility.

  • The Honeymoon

Centuries ago, it was customary for the Bride and Groom to drink mead (wine made from honey) for a month after the wedding. A month was known as a "moon" - hence honeymoon.

  • Tossing the Slice

Believing the newly weds brought good luck, they were showered with nuts and grains to ensure a bountiful harvest. This has now become the throwing of confetti

Our accommodation comprises of the following:

  • 7 x Double bedded rooms
  • 13 x Twin bedded rooms
  • 6 x Family Cottages - each consisting of two bedrooms each with twin beds
  • TOTAL NUMBER OF GUESTS = 64 or 70 with extra children sleeping in Parents' Room

It is essential that a minimum of 50 rooms are booked over two nights if the wedding party wishes to enjoy exclusivity.
